Launch of WHO global report “Health inequality monitoring atlas”

30 November 2026 13:00 – 14:30 CET
Reading time:

Health inequalities exist in every country, but they can remain hidden when health data are presented only as national averages. Understanding how health outcomes and access to services differ between population groups is essential for identifying who is being left behind and for designing policies, programmes and investments that advance health equity.

On 30 November 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) will hold a webinar to launch a new global report, Health inequality monitoring atlas: a global mapping of country capacities, resources, policies and practices. This report provides the first global mapping of national health inequality monitoring systems, offering a baseline picture of countries’ capacities to generate and use evidence on health inequalities.

Drawing on self-reported information from 161 countries, the Atlas examines key components of health inequality monitoring, including leadership and strategic planning, collection of disaggregated health data, and capacity to analyse and report inequality data. It identifies strengths and common gaps, highlights examples of good practice and opportunities for cross-country learning, and sets out strategic directions for strengthening health inequality monitoring.
